Dole, Pasteur’s birthplace
Louis Pasteur’s hometown, Dole lines its glazed-tile roofs around an imposing collegiate church. The Tanneurs canal, flanked by houses with wooden galleries, offers one of the most photogenic corners of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. A visit to Pasteur’s house, a break at a guinguette by the Doubs: the town is made for curious dates that love to stroll.
Salins-les-Bains and mountain salt
In Salins-les-Bains, the Great Saltworks, a UNESCO World Heritage site, tells the story of salt mined here for more than a thousand years in vast underground galleries. You tour the saltworks together, then push on to Fort Belin for a view of the valley. A surprising industrial setting, perfect for talking about things you do not usually share.
High Jura and Mont Poupet
In winter, the family slopes of Métabief and Les Rousses, straddling the high range, invite you to cross-country ski, snowshoe or try sled dogs. In summer, Mont Poupet is a well-known paragliding spot, with a view across the plain. On Lyad, members from the Jura share their favourite escapes; it is up to you to find someone to head off with.
